HASA Mission

HASA is an umbrella organisation, dedicated to conserving the national Estate (as defined in the NHRA).  Being an association, it has no “members”, only “associates” which are individuals or independent, autonomous organisations with similar interests and concerns

HASA is governed by an elected Council that is only constrained or limited in its actions by an approved and adopted constitution.

Under these circumstances why should other autonomous bodies seek to be associated with HASA?

The answer is that organisations are only likely to associate with HASA if they share the aspirations of the umbrella body and can benefit from such an association.  Therefore, HASA should strive to achieve, not only that its own objectives are met, but that these are shared by associations; and that HASA is aware of what associates are trying to do and is ready and able to support them.

Accordingly the role of HASA should be to:

         Keep abreast of national, provincial and local heritage issues;

         Notwithstanding that it charts an independent course of action with

                 regard to heritage conservation causes, it shall:

o   Ensure that its objectives and concerns are communicated widely;

o   Invite the participation by associates in issues initiated by HASA;

o   Encourage associate organisations to communicate with HASA when issues relating to heritage conservation exist in their areas of operation;

o   Offer expertise, or knowledge, or experience, or assistance to associates when they (the associates) deem it necessary to take action on heritage conservation issues;

o   Make issues brought to the table by associates an integral part of HASA’s concern
