Kelvin Campbell lesing 25 September

Kelvin Campbell, innoveerder en wêreldleier in stedelike ontwerp, praat op 25 September op Stellenbosch oor die uitdagings wat dorpe en stede vandag oral in die wêreld en ook in Suid-Afrika ondervind.

Kelvin Campbell, an innovator and world leader in urban design, will be speaking in Stellenbosch about the challenges currently facing towns and cities all over the world, including South Africa, on 25 September.

Campbell’s lecture is important for anyone who wants to share in thinking about how to make the place in which they live a friendlier, healthier and more human-oriented environment.

Die Chileense argitek Alejandro Aravena kry vanjaar die Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) se Charles Jencks-prys vir buitengewone bydraes tot die vak. Dit bevestig Aravena se status, op ‘n betreklike vroeë ouderdom, as een van die invloedrykste eietydse argitekte.

Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena has been named the 2018 laureate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Charles Jencks Award.

The prize is given in recognition of an individual’s exceptional contributions to the field of architecture, both in built and in theoretical works. Aravena will receive the prize and present a lecture at RIBA’s London headquarters on 15 October. The award establishes   Aravena’s status at a relatively youthful age as one of the most influential contemporary architects.

Die Meksikaanse argitek Frida Escobado het vanjaar met materiaal van die winkelrak af ‘n unieke, eiesoortige pawiljoen geskep by die Serpentine pawiljoen in London, waar een van die Wêreld se voorste argitekte elke jaar kans kry om ‘n struktuur te skep wat in die somer een van die hoogtepunte is vir honderde duisende besoekers met ‘n belangstelling in ontwerp.

Die inspirasie onderliggend aan Escobado se ontwerp was ‘n herinterpretasie van Meksikaanse argitektuur buite Meksiko, met erkenning aan Britse argitektuur.

The Mexican architect Frida Escobado has created a unique, distinctive pavilion using off-the-shelf materials for the Serpentine pavilion in London this year. This is where one of the world’s leading architects is given a chance to create a structure as one of the highlights for hundreds of thousands of visitors with an interest in design. The inspiration underlying Escobado’s design was a reinterpretation of Mexican architecture outside of Mexico, with acknowledgement of British architecture.
