Calling for nominations for the Ivan Deacon Greening Award
The Drakenstein Heritage Foundation would like to commemorate Dr Ivan Deacon, a long standing member of the DHF who sadly passed away last year.
Dr Deacon expressed wisdom and guidance in all conservation matters, and made a real contribution related to the preservation or replacement of the venerable old Oak trees in Paarl, where he did not only talk the talk, but pro-actively worked to create an awareness in the community, at the Council, and with developers.
His commitment and energy paid off and the results are there for all to see.
The members of the DHF have decided to honour his passion, and make annual awards, to individuals, companies, developers, schools or organisations that are making a major contribution to the greening of the Drakenstein Valley.
The criteria for this award are:
- Preservation of the Green Environment
- Education of the Community
- Removal of Alien Vegetation
- Water-Wise planting
- Preservation of existing trees and the planting of new ones.
The nominee may satisfy any or all of these criteria.
The award will be presented at our AGM at the end of November.
We welcome nominations from Paarl, Wellington, Saron and Gouda.
Nominations must include:
1.The name and contact details of the nominee and the nominator.
2.The details of the contribution relating to our criteria above.
- Photographs if possible
