Distressing care of valuable artefacts at Caledon Museum

On a recent visit to Caledon museum this chair was found being used as additional office furniture.

The museum manager was informed that of all the chairs in the museum this was by far the most valuable(if not the most valuable financially of all their displays) certainly the oldest and the most valuable exhibit  in relation to the development of the early settlers in the area.

They appear to be short of an office chair. What was most upsetting is that nobody appeared to know anything about it  and it could most easily disappear .

It is one thing to promote and encourage   previously disadvantaged employees but to do so without   the necessary  training and information places them in  very embarrassing circumstances  and reflects very poorly on the museum services in the Western Cape.
