Members of the public are invited to nominate candidates who could serve for a period of three years on the Council of Heritage Western Cape, a provincial heritage resources authority. Heritage Western Cape bears the responsibility to protect, promote and manage the heritage resources of the Western Cape. Its mandate is determined by the National Heritage Resources Act, 1999 (Act 25 of 1999) and the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act 1 of 1999). REQUIREMENTS: Nominees should – (a) be South African citizens (b) be permanent residents of the Western Cape (c) have the knowledge, qualifications, experience and interest in subjects relating to heritage resources management. Members of the Council will be appointed by the MEC according to the criteria of transparency and representivity of the heritage of the people of the Western Cape. The term of office for the committee is three years. Nominees must be South African citizens, at least 21 years of age and permanent residents of the Western Cape Province. The Western Cape Provincial Geographical Names Committee (WCPGNC) is responsible to advise the South African Geographical Names Council (SAGNC) regarding matters pertaining to geographical names – including the standardisation, verification, transformation of, and changes to existing geographical names. Nominees must be knowledgeable or have specialised proficiency in the following areas: • Geography / cartography • Orthography (language spelling systems) • Language and linguistics (proficiency in the three official languages of the Western Cape) • Cultural Heritage, History and Tourism Members serving on the WCPGNC do not receive salaries, but will receive meeting allowances. Members of the public who wish to nominate suitable individuals to serve on the WCPGNC must complete the prescribed nomination form with the following details: a) The nominee’s full name, address, contact telephone number and email address b) A Curriculum Vitae of the nominee that validates his/her eligibility for appointment to the WCPGNC c) The names and contact details of the person/institution nominating the candidate No nominations will be considered if all abovementioned information is not provided.
